The lifestyle is simple; most men fish and most women work at one of the businesses (hostel or restaurant) as a way to earn income.  Most days you will see locals lounging in hammocks as a way to pass the time.  There is 1 tiny store, 1 church, 1 school, a few restaurants and hostels, and a lot of families that need to know that God loves them.

Along facilitating short-term mission groups missionaries Jordan and Lindsay Guy started a Wednesday movie night and Friday teen night. They live among the community and build relationships with the local Panamanians.

In addition to helping them out our hope is to start an English movie night for the foreign travelers as well as a Christian Surfers biblestudy.

 
Santa Catalina is a small little town in Panama that has become a tourist town in the very loose association. It's still a very small quiet town (except when the cantina is blaring their music), with one main road. It is a dichotomy of houses with tin for siding, thatched roofs and outhouses mixed among the nice (and not so nice) establishments to service the traveler who made the trek here to surf or dive. The closest town is 2 hours away on a winding, 2 lane road (which we learned it's not nice to drive in the dark) busy with stray dogs, children, chickens, horses and views of the cow lined mountain tops. is one thing, but to experience it is quite another. A food truck drives by every few days selling fruits and vegetables.

Over the past 8 years mission groups have been traveling to Catalina to share Christ's love with the community.We help facilitate those groups. They lead VBS, do building projects for homes and find ways to help and serve the community.  They have formed relationships with many locals and have planted roots of hope throughout.  One of the goals of mission groups that travel here is to show that outsiders want to give and help out.
